Snow is very rare where I am from in Southern Alabama, so whenever I get the chance to experience it I try to enjoy every moment. The last time I went to Tennessee in 2020 we hiked up to the Chimney Tops. It had snowed two days prior and I happened to forget my hiking boots, so as we got to the last mile of trail the elevation and ice had a different idea about my ability to summit the overlook than I did. I literally slid on my heels all of the way back down the trail until the ice disappeared at the lower elevation. this photo if of the trail conditions right before where the ice started covering the trail.
